Introducing: Häxer

Heya, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! For those living under a rock, can you tell us a bit about yourselves as a band?

This band is made up of 5 guys, all coming from their own place musically. Lots of punk, NWOBHM, thrash metal, black metal and some hardcore and Thin Lizzy in there as well. The way we mix everything together is focusing on putting everything into the live performance. The band was started in 2021 when the bass player put us together. Most of us have played with him before. Then we had some trouble finding a singer, until all of a sudden, Ravn shows up out of nowhere! The band is all about class struggle, anti-imperialism, equality and old stories from the woods and we’re not afraid to show it.

You’ve got new music coming out soon, can you tell us a little about it and what it means to you?

This EP contains four songs that we have had in our repertoire for some time now. It’s a collection of hard-hitting songs that tries to show what class struggle, perdition and relentless aggression can sound like today. We are all coming from small towns and quiet places, with a lot of nature, a lot of hushing and brushing under the carpet and maybe that’s what makes witch punk!

Do you have a favourite track on there or is it like picking your favourite dog breed?

Some of us would maybe say that “Heksedans” is the best track but they’re all standalone powerful songs. Yeah, it’s exactly like dog breeds, maybe no one can name their favourite but everyone knows that the Chihuahua is completely unnecessary. We’ve got no time for unnecessary songs either.

Can you give us an insight into how you write tracks and has this changed as you’ve become more comfortable working together?

Usually our lead guitarist writes most of the stuff. The lead guitarist puts together a quick demo that everybody gets under their skin by themselves. We live far away from each other so there’s no time to fuck around during rehearsals and practice. This has now become our normal way of producing material. The lyrics are usually written by our singer but our bass player used to write them. Everybody chips in here and there. We all come from different corners of this thing but the drummer will tolerate all the Lizzy-ish twin guitars, as long as he can add some blast beats here and there.

What was the original inspiration for you wanting to get into music and is the current style where you thought you would head?

We all came from metal and punk. When the bass player put the band together, it was mainly inspired by the Norwegian band Spidergawd. As time went on we understood that we were much more punk, much more screaming, dirtier and more aggressive. We steal a lot of tricks from a lot of bands, both old and new. Just like every band does. For us it ended up with Witch Punk!

Aside from the new release, do you have any upcoming plans you’re excited about?

Fuck yeah! Our release party will be at the perfect place in Oslo called Brewgata. We then travel around for some great shows with some great bands through the year. We’re also already working on material for the next big release.

What’s the ultimate goal for the band? Headlining major festivals, playing a certain venue or just having as much fun as you can?

We need to take this as far as possible! Whether that is a tour in the summer or something big, who knows! But Witch Punk is coming and you should dance with us, there’s no chance of hiding!

Outside of the day-to-day band life, what gets you up in the morning?

Coffee, shits, kids and dogs and yard work. You know, no one actually hates Mondays, we all just hate capitalism.

Finally, are there any bands that you’d like to give a shout out to?

We’re gonna do some gigs with some really cool bands in 2024! Shoutout to Håndgemeng, Fights, Kingseeker, Jaggu, Ramonas Tea Party and Tidstyv!

Thanks for your time! Is there anything you’d like to say or promote while you’re here?

Follow us on the social media channels and Spotify, Witch Punk is coming!
