EP Review: Collapse The Sky – Welcome | Death

Collapse The Sky – Welcome | Death

Release date: 23rd October

After a busy year of shows, including a standout set at Hammerdown Festival back in July, Collapse The Sky aren’t slowing down anytime soon, as they have now graced us with their new EP Welcome | Death…and it doesn’t disappoint.

The title track sets the gloomy tone of the EP right away, blending fast and aggressive riffs with atmospheric synthwork that fit hand in hand to achieve a rather intense effect. On the other end of the spectrum, ‘Half Life’ throws everything the band has to offer in as relentlessly as possible.

Despite its constant intensity, satisfying riffage and frontman Lee Margaillan putting his screams through their paces, there are a couple of instances where the mixing and production don’t quite do their sound justice. This issue does occur on the closing track ‘Requiem’, but that thankfully doesn’t stop it from being the epic bow on this already solid EP. The track also features guest vocals from Aethoria’s Mecia-jade Holden, and it’s easy to see why they got her on board, as her soaring vocals complement Margaillan’s screaming really well.

If you’re a fan of this band already, then Welcome | Death will not disappoint in the slightest, delivering the most blistering set of tracks the band has made to date. Though some production choices lessen the intended impact of certain moments here and there, the rest of the experience from this EP is loud and proud, showing tonnes of promise for where Collapse The Sky could go next.
