Single Review: Alexisonfire – Familiar Drugs

unnamed (7)You know when you’ve been hoping for something for so long and you’ve started to lose hope of it ever happening? Like Tool releasing a new album or Alexisonfire releasing any new music? Well fuck me 2019 is going to be a wild ride!

Our favourite Canadian post-hardcore ‘mob are back and this may just be the best thing they’ve ever released.

Familiar Drugs’ is the song and it has been on the cards for a while now. The reunion came in 2015 when they hit Reading & Leeds festivals to what was a slightly confused crowd waiting for Royal Blood. Last year Download Festival and a huge Brixton Academy show with Cancer Bats in support came and went until, finally, the band’s social media started changing in that oh so familiar way.

Fast forward a few weeks and here it is. Almost gone is the post-hardcore we’ve come to know and love, replaced with something a bit unique. With riffs reminiscent of stoner/doom rock and Dallas Green having added yet another layer to his already absorbing backing vocals this is a great time to be alive. Frontman George Petit has an added venom to his words and the whole damn band mean business.

This could be the rebirth of something truly special. Check it out here:

There it is then, get your hands on all sorts of AOF goodies here: alexisonfire.store-08.com

Then get yourself down to the show at the Alexandra Palace on the 1st of June 2019. It might well be the best show of the year.
