Album Review: Dayseeker – Replica

DayseekerReplica

Release Date: 19th April 2024
Spinefarm

Dayseeker is a name that many should be familiar with after their multiple hit singles and successful albums in the modern metal scene, known so far for melding their raw, emotional vocal stylings of Rory Rodriguez with outrageously low-tuned guitars. In this new release, the band have delved further into the elegant and delicate melodies that have been such a core aspect of their sound.

This new acoustic album, Replica, offers a more intimate and personal connection to all of the songs fans are already familiar with. Stripping back songs such as ‘Sleeptalk’ and ‘Without Me’ highlights the band’s impeccable sense of melody and affinity for writing hooks. As the lyrics of this album had been such a personal experience and expression for Rodriguez, the listener has an opportunity to experience and understand the anguish intricately woven through these words without any distraction.

Amongst the renditions of these songs, fans are treated with guest vocal appearances from Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo, Holding Abesnce’s Lucas Woodland, and indie artist Amber DeLaRosa. These features, and the performances themselves, are perfectly suited to the songs with their voices so elegantly matching the style and tone that Rodriguez brings, and this in turn transforms the songs that fans know into something even more mesmerising.

To top off this angelic collection of acoustic songs, we hear Dayseeker turn their style to a song from outside their musical catalogue with a brave and stunning cover of ‘my immortal’ by Evanescence. Tackling such a beloved song as this is always a risk. So many fans of the original song hold a deep emotional and personal connection with it, making it a song that an artist needs to really flawlessly execute.  However, the band have managed to pull this version off with impeccable style and finesse, even going as far as receiving praise from Evanescence themselves via social media.

Truly, there aren’t many bands with the authenticity and credibility in their sound to pull an acoustic album like this off correctly, but it is safe to say with certainty that Dayseeker have. Fans in the US can catch them from the release date of this Album, April 19th, alongside Polaris, Rain City Drive, Avoid, and Ayron Jones. This marks another incredible addition to Dayseeker’s catalogue for existing fans and new ones alike.
