Blodtørst – Atter Rir Vinteren

Extreme metal from Norway. You already know what’s going to be going on here, right? Well, maybe, but Blodtørst are certainly at the more ‘accessible’ end of that particular spectrum. Where some bands lean so far into extreme, it’s just a barrage of bass drums, Blodtørst pull from various avenues of inspiration.
‘Atter Rir Vinteren’, a song title that most of us could hazard a guess at the translation, has a groove running through it that begins as soon as the extended intro is over. In fact, once the winds and guitar have passed, we’re into a bouncing alt-metal track that takes us on a journey, driven by intricate drumming that sets the tone by changing style every 15 seconds or so. This itself is enough to elevate the track from ‘just’ extreme, to feeling like you’re living alongside fantasy characters in a brutal world. This is an essential listen to anyone whose head is turning towards heavier things.
