The Prestige – Noire nuit

French metal seems to have been doing a wonderful job of positioning itself as the pinnacle of the heavy world over the past decade. There are the obvious contenders out at the front that get the spotlight, but if you peak behind the curtain, the supporting cast is bringing some serious heat. Enter The Prestige. A four-piece that are melding post-hardcore and shoegaze together to create a sound that has a level of atmosphere up there with some of the darkest black metal. This is some heavy shit, just not in the ‘chuggy-chuggy’ riffs sort of way.
‘Noire nuit’, and more recently, ‘The Ascend’, showcase a ridiculous degree of talent, to the point where it’s hard to understand how a band that have only been releasing music for a couple of years can be this tight. If you love your vocals raw and emotional with a soaring landscape of instrumentation behind it, get this on and get ready to get lost in the narrative.
