Sixth Wonder – Thorn
Release Date: 9th April 2025
‘Thorn’ is the latest track from Glasgow rockers Sixth Wonder, a brutal alt-metal-cum-djent track that brings melodic cleans crashing together with pulsating guitars and screams that’ll have your throat hurting just thinking about joining in. To call ‘Thorn’ chaotic would be underselling how the track is pieced together, moving between softer sections and huge riffs effortlessly. A statement opening to 2025 for Sixth Wonder and a song that will have people diving into the back catalogue.
Tim Minchin – Ruby
Release Date: 3rd April 2025
Something a little different next from Aussie comedian and pianist Tim Minchin. A song about a relationship between mother and daughter, ‘Ruby’ will pull at the heartstrings as much as it will have you wanting to sing along. What is it with Aussie entertainment teaching the rest of the world life lessons? Collab with Bandit when?
H_ngm_n – Spotlight
Release Date: 3rd April 2025
The instantly catchy pop-punk bop ‘Spotlight’ from south coast two-piece H_ngm_n. Standing still is a challenge that few will rise to for the almost four minute run time. Catchy and meaningful lyrics implore you singalong and those catchy pop-y vibes will be too addictive for most.
PØRTERS – The Thrill
Release Date: 2nd May 2025
Geordie five-piece rockers PØRTERS are back again with their funky alt-rock, reminiscent of something from the 70s. ‘The Thrill’ is exactly that, a swaggering rock romp that will have everyone off their feet dancing along, swooning over the harmonies from a band that clearly love doing what they do.
Smacked Youth – White Line Fever
Release Date: 10th April 2025
Aussie punks Smacked Youth are fast approaching a decade in the music industry and with tracks as powerful as ‘Whine Line Fever’ it’s hard to see how they’re remaining a relative secret to the rest of the world. Maybe overshadowed by the pub-punk scene, Smacked Youth are a hard rock band fused with some serious punk energy that will have the beers (and maybe more) flowing.
Johnny Falloon – Circumcision
Release Date: 2nd May 2025
American post-punk in the form of ‘Circumcision’ (always a fun topic) from Johnny Falloon is a bustling affair that thankfully pulls in plenty of both more traditional punk as well as the post stuff too. Whether it be the frenetic opening or the jazzy outro, ‘Circumcision’ is a bit more than just a little off the top, it’s the potential to be a full introduction to a new genre for those unacquainted with post-punk.
Jumpcare – Forever in This State of Mind
Release Date: 24th April 2025
German grungy rockers Jumpcare, no ‘s’ in the middle, have released their debut pair of tracks in 2025 and it’s hard to understand how this isn’t a band with a decade of experience under their belts already. Already building a following, the quartet have created a brooding, slow burn of a song that is reminiscent of the glory days of grunge.
