New Music Roundup – 9th October 2024 – Part 1

Grave Waves – GIRL

Release Date: 2nd August 2024

Dirty punk has been making an almighty resurgence over the past few years and is being heavily combined with feminist vibes. Not here though as American punks bring us ‘GIRL’, a track about how much it sucks to be a girl. Tongue in cheek, raw and fun. Grave Waves have nailed it here.

Bikkinyshop – Worthless

Release Date: 26th July 2024

Metalcore from The Czech Republic saw Bikkinyshop release ‘Worthless’, a track that harks back to the golden age of metalcore. Soaring cleans, pounding riffs and choruses that take things up a level each time. Is it 2004 again?

Reliquia – Shallow

Release Date: 5th August 2024

British gothic metal in the form of Reliquia and their track ‘Shallow’ graced those August as the slow, brooding track quite nicely replicated the pitiful attempt at a summer Britain had. Vocally engaging, lyrically relatable. This could be a turning point for a band with a whole market to capitalise on.

Baby Schillaci – ThE AnTi SuNcReAm LeAgUe

Release Date: 9th August 2024

Unsurprisingly given the name, ‘ThE AnTi SuNcReAm LeAgUe’ is a track from British punks Baby Schillaci that is pointing, laughing and then leaning forward and slowly rubbing it’s temples, mulling over the futility of modern news and the age of misinformation we live in. Punchy and pacy, get ready to lose yourself in it.

Death Cult Electric – Wishy Washy

Release Date: 6th August 2024

‘Wishy Washy’ is the first single from an album that is due to hit the metaphorical shelves before 2024’s conclusion from British alt-rockers Death Cult Electric. With an obscene amount of energy combined with catchiness for days, there’s a chance this one just gets stuck like the little earworm it is.

A Sight in Veracity – Will My Imagination Become a Reality?

Release Date: 22nd August 2024

Heavy and progressive, A Sight In Veracity are blending influences and genres like they’re ice cream flavours and your ears are the cone. Alt-metal moves into metalcore with elements that are heavier than both. These Aussie’s needed to do this too, with a running time of over eight minutes. Thankfully though, there’s little time to relax as the track flows effortlessly.

Asylum 213 – D.G.A.F.

Release Date: 21st August 2024

Dropping a bit of math into alt-rock is something that seems so simple it is surprising that everyone doesn’t do it. ‘D.G.A.F.’ by Asylum 213 just has the feeling of a lack of constraints that leads to music being as fun as it should be. Maybe there’s somethingin the name there.

GRLwood – Grow Up

Release Date: 16th August 2024

At a little under a couple of minutes in run time it would be easy to not pack in as much as is needed. Not to worry when it comes to ‘Grow Up’ from GRLwood, a track from the American punks that pulls hard on the strings of women and girls that face a harder time for simply existing. The track is heavy as hell and we dare you not to want to smash something up.

prom – Private Room

Release Date: 22nd August 2024

The south coast of England is a hotbed of emo and has been for the past decade at least. A little ironic but still, it means we get tracks like ‘Private Room’ from bands like prom. At not even two and a half minutes, we get raw, unfiltered emotion and the chance to unleash all of your inner demons. You can’t really ask for more.

LucyVivor – Sick Of It

Release Date: 22nd August 2024

Closing us out here is ‘Sick Of It’ from LucyVizor. While the track name does feel like everyone has ‘done it’, this one brings with it riffs that you’ll want to bounce to, cleans you’ll want to harmonise to and “bleughs” that you’ll want to….well bleugh to. A track that is going to go off live and give you a good stomp on when you listen to it in the outside world.
