French-based pop-rock band Oakman have released their brand-new single ‘Curse’, alongside a music video. This single will be part of their new album Violent Oblivion which will be released in May, you can preorder the album now.
The band speak on the new single, “A year ago, we wrote the song ‘Murder,’ which described the point of view of a victim suddenly imagining herself, in her fantasy, becoming the murderer of her abuser. But what about the trauma years later? That’s what ‘Curse’ is about. The song delves into an inner struggle against past trauma or toxic relationships. The lyrics evoke the desire to free oneself from memories and feelings associated with a painful experience, which persist despite everything. The repetition of the refrain ‘But I won’t surrender’ expresses the refusal to give in to the power these thoughts and memories have over the person, affirming that she refuses to be dominated by them and fights for her own healing and emotional freedom.”
