Release Date: 24th November 2017

Glaswegian alternative rock group, Divide (previously known as Divides), have released a new EP, Embers.

Embers kicks off with Before I Go, leading us in with an immediate heavy intro and a mix of fast pace instrumentals. This song sports an emotional chorus complete with a strong set of vocals. Track 2 takes us to Last Words, with a tuneful beat and a catchy choice of lyrics.

The EP’s third track brings us Catalyst, a song which keeps a continuous beat and some repeated lyrics, with some added backing chants during the energetic chorus. Track 4, Sink This City, gives us some calmer and slower instrumentals. This song, and also many throughout the entirety of the EP, shows us the strong Glaswegian accent of frontwoman, Nicole Mason.

The EP concludes with the fifth track, Embers, featuring a brief piano intro before leading into a heavier set of instrumentals, and finishing off with a combination of drums and a vigorous guitar riff before coming to a close.

To sum up, this is a talent-filled EP by an extremely talented band. Each song brings a collection of instruments and hearty vocals, as well as a desire to have a good headbang. There are some possible Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless influences in this EP, found in the use of similar instrumental sounds and of a female lead. Divide is no doubt a band which we can expect to hear more from in time to come.

Recommended Track: Before I Go
