Pieces – Degenerate

There’s something reassuring about proper British punk. Whether it’s talking nonsense or something actually meaningful, it always feel genuine and that’s the case on ‘Degenerate’ by Essex based Pieces. The track focuses on addiction and recovery and the chaos around it and features catchy big bass on top of drums that will have you bouncing from the off. Add in snarled vocals and you’ll be bouncing along singing while spilling beer all over yourself in seconds.
Trickstate – Static Truth
Release Date: 1st September 2026
If you’re needing your bands to be genre spanners then Trickstate feel like they need adding to your rotation. ‘Static Truth’, released at the start of September, may have its roots in a sort of melodic punk vibe that emanates through the verses, but the choruses take a huge detour into a more traditional metalcore vibe with clean soaring vocals in contrast to the rougher parts elsewhere. A wonderful introduction to a Dutch band that have a lot of promise.
Thief – Moon and Kill
Release Date: 1st September 2026
Taking a turn to the more experimental now we have American post-metal outfit Thief with latest single ‘Moon and Kill’. A strong electronic presence pushes ‘Moon and Kill’ from the very start as it ebbs and flows around a theme of rage and despair. Both of these are reflected in a track where there are long atmospheric sections that lull you into a false sense of security as you ponder life before having angst thrust on you in the form of screams in places and a heavier, dirtier bass in others. Cinematic and fresh.
poor sport – fade
Release Date: 1st September 2026
Canadian post-hardcore-cum-emo outfit poor sport have the feeling of what would happen if Against Me! and Touché Amoré collided at high speed. It’s chaotic in places, beautiful in others. Twinkly at times and yet heavy just as often. Though ‘heavy’ on ‘fade’ could mean musically or emotionally, as you’d hope. There’s a depth to the track that is noticeable immediately and an organic feel that is prevalent through from start to finish. Get ready to get lost in this track.
Morale – Erase
Release Date: 4th September 2026
British grungy-nu-metal three piece Morale have been a band we’ve kept a close eye on over the years and they returned this month with their first new music since 2022’s ‘Dark Passenger’. The latest offering, ‘Erase’, is the first song from the band’s upcoming album (titled Rot) and feels quick quickly like the break has done the band no harm in terms of their musical output at the very least. Picking up where they left of, ‘Erase’ opens up feeling like it could be taking inspiration from the late 80s/early 90s or the turn of the century and it isn’t until the track opens up after a minute or so that it becomes clear it’s both. This debut full length release could be special.
Bridges Ablaze – Left For Dead
Release Date: 4th September 2026
Modern metalcore continues to pull away from the safety of the middleground. Where more ‘traditional’ metalcore had the grittiness of metal with the cleaner choruses, today’s bands, Bridges Ablaze included, are feeling more and more like metalcore bands with pop singers out front. ‘Left For Dead’ features dual vocal styles, both of which are super sweet sounding. Underneath that we have riffs, huge drums and an electronic backing track that will get the crowds bouncing.
Resurrection Men – Holler
Release Date: 8th September 2026
Bristol four-piece Resurrection Men released ‘Holler’ earlier this month, the band’s first single since forming earlier this year following years of playing in other bands such as Modern Rituals, Talons and more. The track sits firmly in the alt-rock camp but features a driving riff that you just instantly know is going to be ridiculous when played live. As far as debut tracks to go, this one will worm its way into your brain and sit there for the rest of the day in the best possible way.
