We visited Brixton Academy for the opening night of Knocked Loose‘s, just a couple of days after their intimate gig at the Underworld in Camden. They brought along Basement, Harms Way and Pest Control to fill out this large line up.
Pest Control

Leeds based Pest Control are first to take the stage tonight. With their most recent EP Year of the Pest under their belt, they are now in full swing of live shows. With guttural screams, fast-paced drumming and guitar solos, they command the room with ease as they dart across the stage. Mosh pits start popping up in the crowd as they continue their set.
Harms Way

Next up are hardcore band Harms Way, as they quite literally jump and bound their way on to the stage. They’re bursting with energy, with the drums maintaining the momentum throughout their set. The first few crowd surfers start appearing over the barrier, the perfect warm up for the crowd surfing heavily anticipated for the rest of the night.
Basement

Next up on this stacked line up are crowd favourites Basement, and we know this because of the Basement merch scattered around the room. With a large back catalogue of music released over the years, Basement have a loyal fan-base, and that’s clear tonight as the band have the crowd in the palm of their hands. Crowd surfers are immediately over the barrier at the start of their set, with lyrics being screamed at the stage with such emotion from the audience during their hit ‘Covet’.
It’s a change of pace for the evening with their soft grunge sound, but the energy doesn’t falter one bit as the atmosphere in the room was on a all time high.

Now for the moment everyone has been waiting for, Knocked Loose, teasing the audience with eerie stage lighting, the anticipation in the room was looming.
Frontman Bryan Garris hits the stage, and they launch into their first track ‘Thirst’. The reaction from the crowd is instant, as the front row is pushed against the barrier and crowd surfers piling their way over to the pit. A crowd favourite ‘Deep In The Willow’ after going viral on socials sets the audience into an incredible frenzy. Guitarist Isaac Hale’s interaction with the crowd is fantastic, and keeps their energy going as he runs across each side of the stage.
As Knocked Loose power through their impactful set, we’re treated with a special guest, Loathe vocalist Kadeem France for their track ‘Billy No Mates’.
The night comes to a close with the final track on their latest album, track ‘Sit & Mourn’. The crowd are left feeling fulfilled and completely satisfied after a full night of hardcore – what a way to kick off their headliner.
