Braving a particularly cold and dark December night, we ventured to Glasgow’s famous SWG3 warehouse to indulge in witnessing Dayseeker’s largest Scottish Headline show to date. This run, with support from Heart Of Gold and Rain City Dive, has seen the band capitalise on their success over the last few years.
Starting off strong , Heart Of Gold opened the show to a cold, tired and weary audience. It seemed as though the majority of the crowd were unfamiliar with their work, but this did not discourage them from putting on an incredible performance. Their sound was an inviting mix of gentle and warm soundscapes with groovy, upbeat and energetic indie rock. This was definitely a more refined and matured version of the indie sound that had become popularised through Tumblr at its peak. As someone who had never heard of them before, much like everyone else in the room I soon found my head bobbing and a smile sweeping across my face. The experience can only be described as fun, pleasant and a perfect start to the evening.
Following this we had Rain City Drive, returning to the UK after some years away, and coming back hot off the release of their most recent album “Things Are Different Now”. Having been familiar with this artist, we knew what we would be in for with this performance. The band took to the stage quick and eager to get the audience involved, encouraging movement, singing along and hands in the air at every opportunity. Their blend of big choruses and catchy pop hooks were familiar to the audience, even if the songs were not. Managing to get the famous “here we” Glasgow chant going and bringing out Rory from Dayseeker for a vocal feature, they captured the audience’s attention and properly warmed the room up for Dayseeker.
Finally, we came to the headline act and the reason we were here, Dayseeker. Following their support slot on a sold out Pierce The Veil tour earlier this year, they were eager to show droves of new fans in attendance just what they can do in a live setting. Wasting no time to kick into one of their hits, they opened with Dream State after descending to the stage in suave attire as they have become known for. Immediately their energy was electrifying, captivating the audience and turning them into a choir to back up the magnificent vocals from frontman Rory Rodriguez. Their set contained many powerful and heartfelt moments, this is a band that is truly grateful for what they have and the success that has deservedly come from their years of hard work and effort. Amidst these moments, each heavy section carried such drama and each quiet moment an emphasis of the talent and songwriting skills on offer. Treating fans to a barrage of hits and their beautiful cover of ‘My Immortal’ By Evanescence, this was a memorable experience for the whole audience of new and returning fans alike.
