Interview with Jasmine Marceau.
We caught up with Bobby Vylan and Bobbie Vylan on Saturday before they hit the Kerrang Stage.
Welcome to Slam Dunk! You’re playing this afternoon. How are you feeling?
Bobby: Feeling good! Feeling great! How are you?
I’m not gonna lie, I’m very warm! Have you been here before?
Bobby: Nah. Never been, never played.
Bobbie: They never invited us. But we’re here!
How do you feel about the atmosphere so far?
Bobby: We haven’t seen much yet, we’ve only just got here! Bob’s got his food, that’s definitely gonna be cold. It was his fault as he was too eager to get it!
Bobbie: I thought I’d get away with a little snack.
Bobby: A little snackaroo before.
I’m sorry you’ve been taken away from your food! Let’s talk about your album you released earlier this year. There’s been an amazing response. How do you feel it’s gone down?
Bobby: It’s gone down, fantastic. Yeah, I mean, you know, the music is for us first and foremost, and then when you see it appreciated by so many people it’s all you could ask for really.
You’ve also announced a UK and EU tour. Are you going anywhere new on this tour?
Bobby: I think we are in in Europe.
Bobbie: Poland, there’s some places that we haven’t done headlines before.
Bobby: In the UK it’s more fairly well chodded ground. We also have the US tour as well which was announced a couple of weeks ago. That’s new for us. First time doing a headline tour in the US. So a lot of new places that we’re going to be seeing this year.
Where are you most excited to go?
Bobbie: New York and Berlin, two amazing cities.
Great choices. So if no-one has ever heard of you, which tracks would you recommend from your most recent album for them to listen to?
Bobby: From the new album? ‘Humble As The Sun’…
Bobbie: ‘Dream Big’.
Bobby: Yeah ‘Dream Big’, and ‘Hunger Games’. I’d say those three.
Any from your previous releases?
Bobby: I would say the intro to the album Dread, the intro to We Live Here, and then ‘We Live Here’. They’re the three.
Have you had a think about your set list for your like your tours yet?
Bobbie: Noooo! That’s about four months too early.
Bobby: We’ll have the set list ready about 5 minutes before we go on stage as is tradition for Bob Vylan.
That stresses me out.
Bobby: Yeah it stresses our tour manager out. But that’s kinda how we like to do it.
Okay, do you have the setlist for today?
Bobbie: We will have one.
Bobby: Food first! Then set list.
Bobbie: Priorites y’ know.
So, I spoke to you last year and I asked where you see yourself in three years time…
Bobby: Yeah, I said TV. We’re going to be on TV later tonight with Jools Holland, so we managed to do that within one year instead of three. And when was the last time you went climbing?
Bobbie: Yesterday, and then later!
Bobby: So, we’re quite literally living out the dream that we envisioned!
