We Demand Parachutes – Sweet XTC
Release Date: 17th May 2024
Three-piece alternative pop-punk band We Demand Parachutes release ‘Sweet XTC’. With an upbeat tempo and self-destructive lyrics, it is one of those songs that fits in perfectly with a late-night drive. ‘Sweet XTC’ gives off the summer vibes, which are synonymous with the older favourites of the genre.
The band has been outspoken about how vital storytelling is to them in their songwriting and it is showcased in this track, with references to a tumultuous and conflicting relationship—the lyrics paired with the bouncy beat make it a song you would want to add to your pop-punk playlist.
Common Crime – Repressions
Release Date: 24th April 2024
Philadelphia native alternative rockers Common Crime mix emo and pop punk on their debut single ‘Repressions’. The track dives right in with melody-driven guitarwork and raspy vocals, truly showcasing their style. It is incredibly polished for a debut single and it shows that the band has been working hard on their sound before the release.
It is rare to see a band so clear on their sound within their first single. The drums and the almost whiney guitars complement the sad and nostalgic lyrics, reminding listeners how different everything is when you are all grown up. Definitely worth looking out for more of them in the future following their promising debut.
Whippets – Splinter
Release Date: 23rd April 2024
Post-punk grunge band Whippets deliver a groovy almost surf-rock single ‘Splinter’. The track makes you feel as if you are at a packed basement show ready to scream the lyrics “Get out of my mind!”. The sometimes distorted guitars really add to the almost grimy feel of the song.
There is a certain flair which vocalist and guitarist Bobby Hussy adds to the track as he pairs clean vocals with angry screams. Whippets are hard to define by just one genre as their sound is a melting pot of both underground and mainstream artists but they have made their entirely own sound.
The Fever Kings – Nowhere To Hide
Release Date: 3rd May 2024
The Fever Kings introduce the alternative rock scene to ‘Nowhere To Hide’. The track is an introduction to their self-titled debut EP which will be out on June 21st. The track is heavily influenced by early 2000s rock as it gives off a certain nostalgic vibe. The drums on the track coordinate the bass and the guitars skillfully really immersing the listener into the song.
The guys show their love for the scene in the latest release, as it clearly shows the influences of bands such as Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro and Jimmy Eat World.
