Interview with Alex Velikova.
“I really like in-depth psychological thriller films, it’s the soundtracks, the visuals. I did a photography degree, so I am a very visually focused person and it is really cool to bring it all.” Charlie Rolfe
We caught up with Charlie from As Everything Unfolds on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Slam Dunk South, she expresses a sense of nostalgia about the festival and the strange feeling of actually playing it.
How are you enjoying your day so far? Is there a big difference between being on stage and attending as a fan?
Charlie: I have been to Slam Dunk for years, as a teenager and it is really nice to actually play it. There is a difference. I felt nostalgic but also it was new at the same time, which is really cool!
Are you going to see some other bands with the rest of your day?
Charlie: Yeah I am going to watch The Blackout, I am gonna watch Funeral For A Friend with Lucas. There is a couple of other bands I am going to watch around as well.
Your music is a melting pot of different influences and all kinds of genres, is there anything that is currently inspiring you?
Charlie: I have been really inspired by film and television at the moment, which is really cool. When I am writing I am trying to bring influences from loads of different places.
Is there anything specific that you have been really enjoying recently?
Charlie: I really like in-depth psychological thriller films, it’s the soundtracks, the visuals. I did a photography degree, so I am a very visually focused person and it is really cool to bring it all.
Was that visual inspiration from your photography degree a big part in your most recent release Ultraviolet?
Charlie: It has always been a big part of what I try and do and try and create. It has been nice to kind of actually do both passions together.
Do you have any festival tips? As we know that you are a seasoned festival goer.
Charlie: Portable charger! Don’t expect to receive any text messages. Be prepared and arrange your pick up prior to getting here, because and I know it sounds ridiculous but the amount of times where when we used to go: Ah Shit! We can’t ring the person we need. And it can just be a bit annoying. And all the usual stuff like hand sanitisers and tissues and all that jazz.
What’s next?
We have some festivals in Europe, some headline dates in Germany and some really cool stuff at the end of the year which isn’t announced yet!
