New Music Roundup – 8th May 2024

The Trusted – Self Destruct

Release Date: 5th April 2024

Southend-On-Sea may not be a household name when it comes to music, though Nothing But Thieves and Busted have links there and The Trusted are looking to add to the list. ‘Self Destruct’ is the band’s latest single, following on from January 2024’s Lost Soul EP and combines energetic riffs that are sure to get you bouncing with a catchiness that will have you at least trying to sing along. Merging influences from noughties indie and modern punk, ‘Self Destruct’ is the latest in a growing list of reasons to get excited for this band.

Kingdom Calm – Follow The Leader

Release Date: 1st May 2024

With a foot planted firmly in the classic era of rock, whether it be the sultry vocals or the twinkly solos, ‘Follow The Leader’ is the perfect summer’s day rock track for the modern era. There are nods to many of the classics from the 70s and 80s, where synths sit neatly next to addictive bass. ‘Follow The Leader’ is another step in the right direction for a band that are taking their time and simmering away. This may just be release number six, but if they keep on at this standard there’s going to be an explosion at some point soon.

Lia Rye – All of the Time

Release Date: 3rd May 2024

Leeds-based alt-rocker Lia Rye is just a couple of years into a journey that shows a lot of promise, with ‘All of the Time’ being just the seventh song released by Rye. With a focus on the fickleness of life and how your prime can pass you by in a moment, ‘All of the Time’ shows a maturity that isn’t often seen in people just ticking over into their twenties. One which when combined with unique vocals that come through as if engaging the listener directly will set Rye on a strong path through the industry.

Avalon Stone – Drag Me

Release Date: 3rd May 2024

Hard rock cemented in the ‘classic’ arena sees Avalon Stone release their latest single. ‘Drag Me’. A slow start to proceedings has echoes of The Pretty Reckless, gritty vocals combining with expansive guitars through the full three and a quarter minutes sees this continue too. Closing your eyes and taking this one in sees the listener transported to dive bars and beer soaked floors. Bliss.

Blackpool Mecca – Pavement

Release Date: 3rd May 2024

Nashville rockers Blackpool Mecca are back again with a new single in the form of ‘Pavement’, a thoroughly enjoyable romp through indie styled rock. Modern sounding throughout, the vocals move between soft and slow to more urgent in the choruses. ‘Pavement’ feels like it straddles the line of indie and hard rock so well it will have pedants arguing for hours over where it truly sits. The important thing really is to just sit back and enjoy.
