New Music Roundup – 1st February 2024 – Part 1

Bingo Boys – Signal

Release Date: 13th January 2024

Reviewed By: Dan Hemming

Indianapolis punk-rockers Bingo Boys are back and ready to get stuck in to 2024 following last year’s Freak Out And Leave album. After being born in 2020, like so many projects, they’ve done to the positive of a lot of them in that they’ve pushed on and gone from strength to strength. This latest track, from the brain of bassist Noah Mackey, is everything you want from a garage-style punk band. It’s raw, it’s catchy, it’s energetic and it’s all-round fun.

Lifeboats – Cut From The Same Cloth

Release Date: 27th February 2023

Reviewed By: Mike Malyon

Lyon-based Lifeboats prove to be the opposite of what their single title suggests, in Cut From The Same Cloth. These hardcore punks celebrate an ability to stand out, thanks to their eclectic influences on this earworm-filled track. The French five-piece confidently spotlight anthemic melodies, whilst taking into consideration ample opportunity for audience participation. In having dual singers, the group is also able to comfortably transition between these sing-a-long sections and mosh-inducing bridges, flexing those hardcore roots both rhythmically and instrumentally. The track itself boasts a three-tier breakdown by the end, before dropping back into its final harmony-laden chorus that will undoubtedly be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Electric Circus – Obsession

Release Date: 1st February 2024

Reviewed By: Dan Hemming

Bringing classic rock vibes into the modern day sees frontman and founder Shaun Lamb set up Electric Circus, bringing Brad Woodlands, Jordan Sowerby, and Ryan Brown in alongside him. ‘Obsession’ is the band’s first release of the year and it is one that they will be hoping sets them on a strong footing for the year. With a bass-led opening conjuring up classic vibes, the energy rises as the guitars enter the fray and the grittiness of the track is enhanced even further when the vocals come in. It feels like this is a breakout year for the band just waiting to happen.

Lia Rye – Bad Dream

Release Date: 31st January 2024

Reviewed By: Dan Hemming

Teen rock artist Lia Rye has been at it now for over four years, starting out at just 15 years of age and signs of a matured artist are starting to show now with ‘Bad Dream’ the first release from the Leeds-based singer since 2022’s Fever Dream. With a fun beat that has the effect of picking the listener up for the grunge-infused alt-rock track, Rya has produced a riffy affair that captures a modern style embedded in 90s vibes.
