The Anti Groupies – Read The Room
Release Date: 25th January 2024
American punks The Anti Groupies are starting to make some serious waves across the West Coast as their contagious music sets about getting those claws dug in and the earworms settled. ‘Read The Room’ is the latest of four singles released so far and arguably the most addictive of them all so far. The all-female four-piece will be setting about 2024 with a view to taking over and with plenty planned for the year, that seems increasingly likely.
Minimum Champion – Before It Gets Better
Release Date: 22nd December 2023
Solo projects can often be hard to get off the ground. There’s often a feeling anything that’s peripheral to the ‘main act’ is going to be inferior. This is something that Nicholas Lopardo is hoping to set aside as Minimum Champion looks to solidify his name in the industry. With a softer, West Coast emo feel to it, ‘Before It Gets Better’ has some serious teeth to it. Not in terms of musical heaviness, but the overall tone of the track. There’s a genuine depth to the song and with more music to come, Lopardo looks set to dispel some myths.
Avalon Stone – Harder
Release Date: 26th January 2024
Heading to the north of North America, Canadian solo artist Avalon Stone saw 2023 put some of the foundations in for a push through 2024. Something that she is aiming to capitalise on with ‘Harder’, a track that lives up to its name with a track that runs heavy in terms of overall atmosphere, if not musically. With almost bluesy guitars to back her up, Stone’s gravely vocals are the driving force on a song that would not have been out of place in the mid-noughties. Whilst more energetic songs may get people a little more excited, this one feels like the time to connect with an artist that has some serious talent to put out into the world.
M@ – Could Be Worse
Release Date: 5th January 2024
Achieving some decent numbers as part of Vision Of Disorder has set up guitarist Matt Baumbach well when it comes to writing music and since leaving he’s been busy. ‘Could Be Worse’ is one of a series of songs that have been written by Baumbach now released onto the world through M@ and it goes as hard as you probably remember VoD going…though in a slightly different style. Grungey rock is what is on the card for ‘Could Be Worse’, with the track being a gritty affair leaning heavily into the guitar side of things. The catchy riffs will be have you looking back over the past few decades of music, pointing at all of the influences that pour out. An interesting next step in Baumbach’s career that will likely pick up fans all over.
