Introducing: Dirty Power – Said And Done

Dirty Power – Said And Done

Release Date: 15th December 2023

Irish trio Dirty Power and their latest track ‘Said And Done’ are a bit of an enigma in truth. With influences from many bands over the past few decades and beyond, but with an acoustic guitar as the driving force things may not make perfect sense. Until they start playing. Then it all comes together quite nicely.

Merging all of those bands together into a delightfully catchy and deceivingly heavy track, the trio is the kind of act that you can just stand in awe of as they play their music with a swagger. Check out the track ‘Said And Done’ and while you’re at it read on for our chat with Brendan from the band!

Heya, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! For those living under a rock, can you tell us a bit about yourselves as a band?

Brendan: We’re an alt-hard rock and metal trio with RATM, Nirvana and progressive music vibes.

You’ve just released new music, can you tell us a little about it and what it means to you?

The singles off our ‘Gravitas’ EP have been a switch to acoustic rock and an unexpected chance to reconnect with roots. It means an awful lot on the personal front, to celebrate these songs and their videos having taken full shape and it’s been such a great thing to turn desperate times into musical growth.

Do you have a favourite track on there or is it like picking your favourite dog breed?

Each track is a favourite for a different reason. The three originals tell completely different chapters of a personal story and the two covers express my deep reverence for two very different sides of Irish music. It’s been even more interesting and surprising to hear friends’ reactions to which is their favourite. The punks like the ballads, while the softies dig the rock. Who knew?

Can you give us an insight into how you write tracks and has this changed as you’ve become more comfortable working together?

I always have an ear and an eye open for inspiration. Then I slave over the musical aspects and possibilities, comparing to what’s already been done. Given that there are a few drummers and bassists who alternate in Dirty Power, depending on circumstances and which approach seems to be called for, I work their nuances into the feel of the tracks and then record. This EP has been a once in a lifetime opportunity to go long on the process, so we might go more quick and dirty in the future, but who knows?

What was the original inspiration for you wanting to get into music and is the current style where you thought you would head?

Back when I was about 15 or 16 everyone started asking what I wanted to be when I grew up. And a lot of the kids around me had answers. Or pretended very well like they did. After a lot of thought, I figured the only thing that made any sense to me was music. I had fairly eclectic tastes, but it was obvious that some mix of rock, metal and punk would be the way for me. This EP is more acoustic, but as Nirvana have their Unplugged album, Metallica has S&M, Audioslave Like A Stone and even Rammstein have songs like Los and Ohne Dich. It was the right time to write that chapter for Dirty Power.

Do you have any upcoming plans you’re excited about?

I’m very excited for people to finally hear and see the releases from this EP. I’ve also got ideas about tours and online stuff to follow, which people might get a sense of, from our Quick & Dirty Demos shorts on Youtube etc. I’ve also been working on new guitar and vocal approaches, so there’s so much to look forward to and hardly enough time to fit it all in.

What’s the ultimate goal for the band? Headlining major festivals, playing a certain venue or just having as much fun as you can?

Defintely festivals. But also to do cool stuff with our close-knit friends and fans. Ideas with working titles of Dirty Weekends and Dirty Talk have been knocking around my skull for a while. But above all else, to keep having fun makeing the best music we possibly can.

Outside of the day to day band life, what gets you up in the morning?

Friends, family, nature, good craic and having to pay the bills.

Finally, are there any bands that you’d like to give a shout out to?

Check out The Scratch. They might be the best thing to come out of Ireland since Thin Lizzy.

Thanks for your time! Is there anything you’d like to say or promote while you’re here?

Check out our new EP ‘Gravitas’, our previous one called ‘Notions’ and follow/sign up to hear about the next chapter, which will be coming in flaming hot next. https://linktr.ee/dirtypowerband
