New Single Roundup – 5th December 2023

Pridian – Hive Mind

Release Date: 29th November 2023

‘Hive Mind’ is the final piece of the jigsaw that is Cybergnosis, the new EP from Estonian metal mob Pridian. Released at the back end of November, the release sees a 15-month marketing campaign that included the release of all five tracks from the record over that period. ‘Hive Mind’ is a powerful track that is firmly rooted in modern metal. Melding huge downturned riffs with electronic elements seamlessly is commonplace these days, but keeping the track this heavy alongside is impressive. Add in two vocal styles that alone are strong but together are massive and the Pridian are on to a winning formula. This, all backed up with a visceral video, is a great reflection of a band that are just starting out on their journey but have a lot to say.

TV Death – Dr Bloodmoney

Release Date: 24th November 2023

Georgie rockers TV Death are back again with a new EP full of overly dramatic and suspiciously catchy rock, with ‘Dr Bloodmoney’ being the final single as well as final track from the record titled The God, The One And The Devil. As with many bands these days, one specific genre just isn’t enough and for TV Death it’s more like which genres aren’t they hitting. At its core ‘Dr Bloodmoney’ is a rock track with vocals that are as sleazy as anything to come out of Newcastle the last few years, but on top of that there’s a punky energy to the track that oozes out of each instrument. TV Death have released a banger of an EP and 2024 could be a breakout year for them. Keep those ears peeled!

spinning cupids – Malicious

Release Date: 2nd November 2023

Aussie rockers spinning cupids are just about to complete their second full year as a band after meeting in 2021. If you’re a believer in fate then that must be what this was as what has happened since then has been both fun and magic. ‘Malicious’ is the sixth and latest single from a band that are growing into something really impressive. The track starts conjuring visions of fantasy as the energy on the track is evident from the off. Huge soaring guitars and echoey vocals that merge delightfully contrast with choruses that are pure rock power. When Australia creates rock it usually goes hard and that’s certainly the case for spinning cupids.

nicoah – Nuclear Winter

 Release Date: 1st December 2023

When a vocalist tunes in to a style that matches their voice nicely it can create something really interesting, which is what nicoah has managed to with ‘Nuclear Winter’ being an excellent showcase of her abilities. The track is just the second released by nicoah and where the debut single, ‘sleepwalk’, was more ethereal experience from start to finish, this one feels more authentic and a better way of utilising the strong vocals. ‘Nuclear Winter’ is haunting through the intro and each subsequent verse follows suit. The choruses sit at the other end of nicoah’s range, fitting in with the more modern grrrl rock style, something that feels like it is probably the way to go for future tracks. The door is open for an explosion in 2024.
