The intro to ‘Salem’, from Canadian metal outfit On Deaf Ears does not give much away when it comes to the surprise the opening vocals are on the track. A soft-beautiful soundscape opens up, drums and guitars layer over the top before deep, nu-metal esque vocals land.
From there the track ebbs and flows in just about every direction you could want a song to. Several different styles of vocals are used, cleans, screams and growls go on for days. Musically there’s power, there’s beauty, there’s electronic influences. What more could you want?
