The combination of clean and screams when it comes to vocals is not a new phenomenon but when utilised right can really elevate a track. That’s one thing that Swedish outfit Orochen have really nailed on their latest track, ‘Wastelands’.
The song reflects its name perfectly. Soaring guitars over expansive drums, clean vocals that feel just a little bit eerie and screams that are as desperate as they are angry. The contrasting emotions that it can convey are impressive and when they all come together like they do with around 30 seconds of the track left it feels good.
Not too many will be aware of these Swedes but if more and more tracks like this are released it isn’t long until a following develops around Europe.
