Formed six years ago, Austrian post-metal mob Black Yen are back with a new track that just tips over the either-minute mark. A feat usually reserved for ‘legacy’ bands that think their fans want to hear them half-ass music in a style somewhat similar to what they’re used to.
Here though a sense of urgency kicks off early on in the track and persists. Vocally you’re greeted by a Touche Amore style vibe but…somehow angrier at the world. Combined with some expressive drumming and guitars that range from The Smiths in places to pure post-rock into heavy riffs, ‘Cobalt Dreams’ is a truly fascinating track.
