When the first thing that hits you in a track is a pummelling from a bass guitar you know you’re in for a treat and fans of those old Seattle bands need to sit up and take notice.
Even with that initial bass to the face, it’s the lyrical content that’s the most engaging part of ‘God Now’, focusing on the loss of one’s self. A challenging topic for sure, but one that is dealt with through the provocation of some interesting imagery and a compelling story.
This is only the second track to be released by what on first listen feels like the British coming of Alice In Chains since their 2021 album Serotonin but if 2023 continues in a similar vein it’s going to be one hell of a year for them and us.
