Antivillain – Two Moons
Sometimes it impresses me how much energy bands can pack into a studio track. ‘Two Moons’ from Antivillain starts off a little unassuming until a chunky, fast paced riff blasts into your ears and the passionate and raw vocals kick in. This is the sort of song that, when you first hear it, gets you to sit up a bit straighter in your chair and pay more attention. It’s just that bit different and has that spark that sets it apart from your 6 or 7 out of 10 track. ‘Two Moons’ doesn’t follow your usual verse, chorus formula and has a bit more of an experimental nature, especially the third minute of the track. An impressive introduction to Antivillain for me.
Repenter – So Sick
Coming in at just over two minutes, ‘So Sick’ from Repenter won’t be taking up too much of your day. After a couple of listens you realise that that isn’t quite true though. With such a catchy bassline to the track this song just gets put on repeat. Holly Winter’s singing is reminiscent of the likes of Jack White in style and propels the song upwards. Musically the song is pacey and gets your feet tapping and your head bobbing and quite frankly there’s not much more you can ask for from a song.
Blake Rose – Heavy Shit
Changing it up a bit we have Blake Rose and ‘Heavy Shit’, a track that is aimed at the emotional side of life, if not music. The track is an indie track at heart but with some pop elements that will have you thoroughly engaged. The Aussie artist is heading for 10m streams on Spotify and it is easy to see why, his music transcends genres and draws on so many different styles. This is a song that everyone can enjoy and you could easily hear being played in bars around the world.
Norman Kim – Nothing Wrong With My Life
Up next is some glam pop from Norman Kim, a name you may recognise if you scour the credits of shows like Dexter. ‘Nothing Wrong With My Life’ is a spiritual successor the likes of Queen, and close your eyes and Kim transports you to Freddie’s stunning vocals too. ‘Nothing Wrong With My Life’ is a track about taking an inward look and on the whole being grateful for what you have. It’s a simple yet dramatic song that delivers its message with such ease that you can’t help but let a smile develop on your face as you start moving to the track.
