Singles Only 2019 – Round-up #24

Sleepcircle – Acid Rain

Instagram // Spotify

Fans of the late 80s, early 90s grunge scene will likely hear a lot of what they like in Sleepcircle. With a frontman with vocals like a cleaner version of many of the vocalists from that era, this is like listening to grunge if it started after Brit Pop. This is a modern take on a genre that has been a formative part of so many music lovers around the world, and it feels like this is exactly what this band is. The song is heavy without being brutal and visceral in its imagery. This is a song you can put on repeat.

Necroromantic – god

Spotify // YouTube

With a slow, measured opening with soft vocals over a delicate guitar you’re lulled into a false sense of security before hell breaks loose and the riffs kick in and harsh vocals make themselves known. This is a welcome surprise as a true headbanger of a track ensues. The vocals feel very much like they’ve come out of the nu-metal era, and to some degree the song is a hark back to that period when the band themselves started, but it’s so much more too. The verses are powerful in one way, but when the choruses come along the song just takes off and makes you want to break your neck headbanging harder then you ever have before.
