It’s that time of the year where we head to the docks and get ready to rock! Camden Rocks is just around the corner and Mind Noise Network is going to share with you our must-see bands of the weekend!
Saturday
Modern Error (13:00 – The Black Heart). These first came to my attention when supporting Enter Shikari on their December tour last year and seeing as they’ve just released their first LP, ‘Lost In The Noise’, I figured now is as good a time as any to revisit the band. This lot aren’t just stopping with an Enter Shikari support and I imagine they’ll keep popping up with their melodic hardcore blend all around the country over the next few years. I think they’re one to watch.
Goldkey (15:00 – Camden Assembly). With a combination of Sikth, Nervus and Gallows, Goldkey know how to make good music and smash it live, making them a reliable treat at any festival. If you’re a fan of early 00s Brit Rock or Muse at their very best, try to catch these lot at 3!
Milk Teeth (16:00 – Electric Ballroom). I say it every time, but Milk Teeth really are one of the most reliably excellent bands you can see at a festival, and now they’ve got Em from Nervus doing guitar duties, they’re better than ever. This is the unmissable set of the weekend, so see it!
Phoxjaw (16:00 – The Black Heart). This clash with Milk Teeth sucks but here at MNN we have a lot of love for Phoxjaw so I’d be remiss to not mention them. Fuzzed up, catchy rock with plenty of swagger and songs just perfect for festival yell-alongs.
Black Futures (17:00 – The Black Heart). Those in the know of Black Futures will tell you just how electric they are live, they’re an enigma, it’s in their blood to put on a show. Turn up just to see what the hell goes on once they hit that stage.
Queen Zee (20:30 – Gabeto). Queen Zee have toured pretty relentlessly over the past few years and have this infectious ability to make everyone lose their minds whether its a Marmozets support slot, midday at a festival of Liverpool Pride. This lot just know how to have fun and spread some good old punk energy to ignite you.
Ending the day is a three-way headliner tie, one that’s too tight for us to choose between; Frank Turner (20:45 – Electric Ballroom), Nervus (21:00 – Kolis – The Lounge) and Loathe (21:45 – The Black Heart). You’ve got Nervus for the feelgood hearty anthems of learning to love yourself, Loathe for one of the most exciting British heavy bands and Frank Turner for folk-rock tunes for days. Support the best of Britain and pick one of these with pride!
We also recommend, Ginger Wildheart (15:30 – Camden Underworld), thecityisours (18:15 – The Devonshire Arms), Wheatus (19:00 – Electric Ballroom) and Bitch Falcon (18:30 – Dingwalls).
Sunday
Best Of Enemies (12:00 – The Black Heart). It’s worth getting down early to catch these pop-rockers at The Black Heart. They’re a mixture of Bastille, Don Broco and Lower Than Atlantic and have songs good enough to back up these lofty comparisons too!
A (15:45 – Electric Ballroom). A guilty pleasure but one of the best bands on the lineup, A are heading to Camden Rocks to remind us why the last 90s, early 00s were just the best time to be alive. Keep an eye out for me belting along to every last word.
Ratboy (17:15 – Electric Ballroom). While they’re not strictly a Mind Noise Network band, Ratboy have all the makings of a young Beastie Boys and treat each live performance as a time to be as wild as possible. Yes, it’s indie, but it’s also so much more exciting than that.
Press To Meco (19:00 – Camden Assembly). We’ve been champions of Press To Meco‘s catchy vibrant rock for a long time and we’d be crazy to miss them play Camden Rocks this year. Those choruses and vocal lines are just too infectious to miss!
Hands Off Gretel (20:30 – Camden Assembly). These have set fans of grunge and hard rock alight over the past few years, their music is rough and ready with enough bite to put a lion to shame. I’m sure they’ll bring everything they’ve got to the Camden Assembly.
Our other shoutouts go to Lotus Eater (13:00 – The Underworld), Our Hollow, Our Home (14:15 – The Underworld), Shvpes (Camden Assembly), Soeur (18:00 – The Dublin Castle), Scarlett Riot (18:15 – The Monarch) and (Deaf Havana (21:00 – Electric Ballroom).
