Legend of the Seagullmen – Self-Titled
Release Date: 8th February 2018
Label: Dine Alone Records
Legend of the Seagullmen are a cinematic psychedelic rock band that describe themselves as a “genre destroying supergroup”. Featuring the likes of director Jimmy Hayward and Mastodon’s Brent Hinds, their debut self-titled album will be available from February 8th.
The album is kicked into motion with We Are The Seagullmen, a track with strong vocals and a catchy beat and complete with backing sounds of church bells and seagulls. This leads us into track 2, The Fogger, featuring an eerie intro and a powerful combination of vocals and instrumentals to create a lengthy song with a catchy chorus.
The album’s third song, Shipswreck, was released as an audio video on Dine Alone Records’ YouTube channel last year.
Curse of the Red Tide brings us a softer intro which picks up the pace throughout and also features some great guitar riffs. Legend of the Seagullmen is a fast pace, catchy and upbeat song which sets us up for the dramatic following track, The Orca, including strong instrumentals throughout.
Rise of the Giant, the seventh track, reveals a set of deep and powerful vocals and almost includes some slight country undertones, creating a nice mix of genre. The album’s eighth and final track, Ballad of the Deep Sea Diver, is a slow and dramatic finish to Legend of the Seagullmen’s debut album, creating an almost theatrical feel.
Overall, this is an eccentric and experimental album with a range of beats and use of instruments to include a lot of different genres. Legend of the Seagullmen definitely did not disappoint with their first album and will leave listeners anticipating what they bring us in the future.
