New Music Roundup – 24th April 2024

Broken Colours – Not Giving In

Release Date: 29th March 2024

Catchy enough that it may just ruin your day, ‘Not Giving In’ is the latest in a catalogue of rock music that is becoming stronger each release. Coming to us from High Wycombe, Broken Colours combine the energetic nature of indie rock with the choas of funk. Blending those two may not seem overly difficult, but doing it in a way that brings the best of both sides is a skill that is plainly on show here. Soulful vocals are layered over the top and the whole track just feels like it’s a band having fun with their music.

Kings County – Blue Monday

Release Date: 12th April 2024

We don’t often cover covers here but when we’re talking 80s pop tracks taken on by hard rock bands, it’s second to only the Punk Goes Pop series. Here, Floridian rockers Kings County have taken on New Order’s anthemic hit and turned it up loud. Recognisable instantly, there’s plenty of energy added in to distinguish it, thoug the signature vocal style of the original is maintained. One thing’s for sure, the track just sounds like it has a lot of hair!

Tally Spear – Want To Want You

Release Date: 12th April 2024

London based alt-rock artist Tally Spear has been plying her trade for a few years now and her modern emo styles are starting to put her firmly on the map. Danceable beats throughout are layered underneath Spear’s delicate vocals which spend a few minutes evoking images of heartbreak. If you close your eyes listening to this it’s like being transported back in time twenty years.

Dendera – Mask Of Lies

Release Date: 4th April 2024

After more than a decade in the business it’s no surprise that Dendera are an incredibly well oiled machine. The British metalcore mob have upped their game recently too as ‘Mask Of Lies’ shows. Somehow bigger and better than recent releases (though their live EP from 2022, Blood Red Sky, goes HARD) the track feels like it has been written for the big stages and is destined to blow the roof off any venue lucky enough to house them.

Yur Mum – Hands To The Sky

Release Date: 18th March 2024

Bringing alt-rock and Brazilian vibes together in chaotic harmony is London two-piece Yur Mum, an eye-rollingly named but insanely energetic pair that are doing something just a little bit differnet. The drumming is intense and the vocals feel like they’re being performed directly to you while being looked in the eye. This feels personal.
