Gloria – End Of The Race (YEH)

Manchester, UK based psych-alt rockers Gloria released ‘End Of The Race (YEH)’ at the back end of January this year. The track, the opener from their March EP Love, Hate & Despair, brings us up to speed with some engine noises that would initially lead you to believe you’re about to be launched into some proper classic rock. The vocals when they kick in reaffirm that to a degree, but as the chorus drops and the grittiness of the guitars pumps up, you realise this is something much bigger.
It isn’t until the post-chorus sections kick in that you really appreciate where the psychedelic part comes from. A change from powerful riffs to twinkly guitars, not a massive move but one that changes the atmosphere entirely. Mix in vocals that wouldn’t go amiss in a full-blown pop ballad from the noughties and you’ve got yourself a band that should be playing 2000trees Festival every year.
