Bristol nu-gaze band Split Chain have released their brand-new single ‘who am i?’, taken from their upcoming debut album motionblur, set for release on July 11th via Epitah Records. Pre-order the album now.
Frontman Bert Martinez-Cowles comments on the single, “‘who am i?’ is an important and deeply personal song for all of us because we all relate to it in one way or another. It addresses our own inner critics by confronting the feelings of imposter syndrome we all struggle with as a consequence of the success Split Chain has seen in a short amount of time. We are all our own worst critics, and the song is about working to overcome and block out the noise, negativity and feelings of inadequacy that stems from within our own minds. ‘who am i?’ is ultimately about pulling ourselves out of the negative cycles of rumination and allowing ourselves to believe that we do deserve good things and that we all deserve them just as much as anybody else.”
Just a month ahead of their upcoming album, motionblur, Bert shares, “is a record that tells you that it’s okay to be your authentic self. This is the story of what we’ve been through, and this is the story of who we are today. You either let the things you have experienced define you, or you choose a different path. You can be whoever you want to be. If there’s one thing I hope people take from the album, it’s that.”
“We let chaos reign. And we just try to hold on.”
You can catch Split Chain at Download Festival next week, as well as UK and EU shows before hitting the US. Tickets are available now.
