New Music Roundup – 3rd April 2025

FloodHounds – One Horse Race

Release Date: 21st February 2025

Hoping to refresh the Britpop scene with latest single ‘One Horse Race’, Yorkshire Indie trio Floodhounds take mod tinted earworms to catchy new heights. With a delicate curation of jangly, guitar led nostalgia and tight, harmonious choruses, this track gives plenty to stand out amongst the rest of the pack.

Paper Lady – Silt

Release Date: 7th February 2025

Dream rockers Paper Lady dabble with a new, grunge fuelled take on their brand of stateside shoegaze in their latest release ‘Silt’. This shimmering serenade effectively finds a delicate balance between quiet melancholy and eruptive release, supercharged with fuzzed out guitars, weeping feedback, and completely drenched in reverb for good measure.

hiccup – SMILE

Release Date: 27th February 2025

London based rock duo hiccup have cemented themselves as a band to keep your eye on with their fifth single ‘SMILE’. A punchy, energetic alternative rock anthem that features tongue in cheek lyrics, held up by an incredibly catchy chorus and bridge. What sets ‘SMILE’ apart is hiccup’s creative take on the rock genre. The duo expertly blend hard rock guitars with soft-rock break akin to Paramore’s early work.

Slung – Laughter

Release Date: 15th January 2025

Without ever pigeonholing themselves, Slung are doing a great job of releasing track after track that contains their DNA but sounds uniquely ‘them’ each time. January’s ‘Laughter’ is raw and changeable, capturing the attention with urgent guitars that are matched in the choruses by desperate vocals. There’s a catchiness that runs throughout and keeps the heartrate up.

Sister Envy – Swallowed by the Ground

Release Date: 28th February 2025

Just their third ever single, Sister Envy are building a foundation that could see them push on nicely. Their catchy yet gritty sound is reminiscent of 00s American coming of age dramas. ‘Space rock’ as a genre probably isn’t in everyone’s lexicon, ‘Swallowed by the Ground’ shows that it’s akin to a heavier, pacier shoegaze with some indie elements in there.

Public Order – Joker

Release Date: 3rd February 2025

Anthemic alt-rockers Public Order are looking to put their name in alongside the legion of Welsh bands that are taking over the UK underground scene. Like something out of the early noughties, but with a bit more bite, ‘Joker’ is one of those warm day, staring out of the window tracks as the soft vocals allow the brain to wander before the choruses have you wanting to have a little bounce.

Belted Sweater – Cherry Grove

Release Date: 21st January 2025

Post-hardcore is a simple genre at its core. Angry vocals, delightful music. Belted Sweater’s take on it isn’t too far removed from that rather reductive description. Vocally a little rougher than usual and musically a tad more indie than anything else, with synthy sections that enhance the contrast further.
