Frontierer – As The Night Wept
Release Date: 20th December 2024
Aggressive and unrelenting, ‘As The Night Wept’ was probably the best antidote to those Christmas frivolities when it was released by British alt-metallers Frontierer. As a song it features as many bruising riffs as it does technical drumming and with repetitive yet engaging vocals there’s just nothing not to like here.
Horror Dance Squad – The Rebel Reborn
Release Date: 16th December 2024
Eastern European nu-metal with a modern electronic twist sees Horror Dance Squad release a track that fits perfectly with their band name. ‘The Rebel Reborn’ feels like the ideal track to keep that early noughties revival going. Catchy choruses, DJ scratches and rapped sections supported by angsty shouts. Delightful.
Tape House – Jane I’m Drunk
Release Date: 22nd November 2024
Indie rockers Tape House released ‘Jane I’m Drunk’, a song that feels like it’s right out of a British rom-com when everything just isn’t quite going right. There’s a certain amount of catchiness to it, but it’s the sombre atmosphere that sets the track apart. Conversational and engaging, this is one that you’ll have to listen to a few times.
40 Lashes – Left Out
Release Date: 16th January 2025
American emo’s 40 Lashes, a band with a name that actually suits their genre for once, may not be a household name in the scene just yet, but energetic tracks like ‘Left Out’, their latest and first from their upcoming EP, sees them take some of the more typical emo trademarks like talky-sung vocals and combine them with the more punky side of the genre. Fun, despite the subject matter.
Dusker – Let’s See Ya
Release Date: 8th January 2025
Has a band name ever sounded more Aussie while being from the UK? Not sure, but either way, Dusker are fast becoming the go to for chaotic and raw math rock. Bruising in parts, considered in others. It’s the changeability of ‘Let’s See Ya’ that will have listeners delving into whatever else they can find by the band as soon as they can.
