New Music Roundup – 31st December 2024

Tender Claws – Inferno

Release Date: 29th November 2024

Gritty and dirty, ‘Inferno’ harnesses the power of modern alt-rock and grunge, managing to follow the quiet-loud signature of the latter whilst not rubbing it in your face. The vocals are the star of the show here, huge and raw yet somehow timid too.

NAKEDBURN – Jaded (feat. Liam Cormier)

Release Date: 29th November 2024

Canadian music is bigger than they’d have us believe. Yet, Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier feels like he pops up all over the place, making the world of music better as he goes. Here, post-hardcore mob NAKEDBURN are utilising Cormier’s pipes to add depth to a passionately introspective track. Musically heavy in places and softer in others, there’s no doubt that 2025 is going to be huge for NAKEDBURN.

Haunted By Memories – Falling From Above

Release Date: 28th November 2024

German symphonic metalcore isn’t something that we often cover, but ‘Falling From Above’ from our European friends in Haunted By Memories is just a little bit different. Leaning into the first word of the band’s name, female vocals set light to a spooky opening and return during the choruses that dance among the riffs that adorn the rest of the track. A fun song that takes metalcore in a slightly different direction.

This Island Earth – Shattered Glass

Release Date: 22nd November 2024

Chugging from the off, there’s little chance of respite as djenty-metalcore triggers that part of the brain that just loves those deep vibrations. ‘Shattered Glass’ has aspects of so many of the best alternative bands from the past two and a half decades. Vocally more nu-metal than core, there’s always something new to focus on.

BREAK FIFTY – Pillbox

Release Date: 21st November 2024

The pulsating ‘Pillbox’ from British metal mob BREAK FIFTY saw them lay down a marker for 2025. The track is the epitome of metalcore, bringing together massive, melodic riffs with epic hardcore breakdowns. There’s not really much to do with this song apart pop it on, turn it up loud and smash stuff.

Feral Nature – Aftermathematics

Release Date: 5th November 2024

Dialing up the heavy a little more is ‘Aftermathematics’ from Norwegian metal outfit Feral Nature. The vocals of frontwoman Selma Bahner drive the track that will please fans of bands like Blood Command and Empire State Bastard alike.

Casket Robbery – The Lacryphagist

Release Date: 21st June 2024

American deathcore/metal from Casket Robbery in the form of ‘The Lacryphagist’ is a pounding affair. Unrelenting for the full few minutes it attempts to dislodge your eardrums, the track develops continuously, starting off in the ‘core’ area before landing in a more melodic place towards the end.

Coilguns – Bunker Vaults

Release Date: 22nd November 2024

Swiss noise rockers Coilguns have spent the last few years capitalising on the hard work they put in in the first decade of existence. Latest effort, ‘Bunker Vaults’, does just that by embracing their considered approach to songwriting, allowing an atmosphere to build and use that as the basis of their sound. A raw song for fans of Black Peaks.

Avalanche Party – Shake The Slack

Release Date: 28th November 2024

A bit of indie pop-rock in the style of the 70s and 80s from British rockers Avalanche Party will awaken that part of the psyche that loves Brit-pop style music with a bit of rawness added in too. Catchy, bouncy. Get it on your new year’s playlist now!

Hope Is A Lie – End of Days

Release Date: 26th November 2024

Closing out this piece is Finnish rockers Hope Is A Lie with their track ‘End of Days’, a slow opening song that embraces the rawness of sludge but refines it with a dose of post-metal. Just to really dial up the gloominess. This is the a track to pop on when you need to do some heavy contemplation.
