Bloom Effect – Presente
Release Date: 18th October 2024
Hot out of the studio from the Argentinian/British shoegaze upstarts is ‘Presente’, a Spanish language track that provides a view into the souls of North American trio Bloom Effect. It’s immediately evident that ‘Presente’ is the sort of song that will have you utterly encapsulated. Whether it be the almost church-organ-like atmosphere that is launched into or those beautiful vocals that are like a warm hug on a cold morning. Fans of shoegaze have got another band to add into their rotation here.
Pit Pony – Well Well
Release Date: 16th October 2024
Harnessing the grittiness of the north east of England, Newcastle’s Pit Pony are back with ‘Well Well’, a catchy rock track that pulls on various genres to create a unique sound that anchors itself firmly in the modern alt-rock vibe that is bubbling away in the UK. Vocally it feels as much a conversation as anything else through the verses before you’re transported back to the 70s in the choruses. Get ready for a good dance when this comes on.
never present – all too well
Release Date: 18th October 2024
American genre spanners never present dropped yesterday in the form of ‘all too well’. The song is just the second from the newcomers to the scene, not that you’d know when you pop it on. ‘all too well’ brings inspiration from the past few decades and combines them all into something familiar but not samey. Vocally there’s quite the punky vibe but musically there’s an alt-rock underbelly that borders on stoner in places. Not all music is driving music, but this really feels like it is.
Ghostsmoker – Incarnate
Release Date: 10th October 2024
Aussie metal has been hitting different over the past few years and ‘Incarnate’ from Ghostsmoker is no different. This heavy stoner track is a bruising affair that threatens whiplash in the opening thirty seconds. Add on to that the health risks of trying to scream along and you’ve got a punishing track that somehow constantly drags you back in for more and more and more. This is gloomy stuff. You’ll love it.
Soulsick – Breach
Release Date: 29th August 2024
Norwegian metalcore from Soulsick is something we can hopefully look forward to a lot more after ‘Breach’ set a marker in the sand for a band that are bringing the noughties metal back. Doing what good metalcore does, ‘Breach’ combines melodic elements with heavy riffs and drops the odd breakdown in for good measure. There’s lots to come from this Scandinavian band and we’re here for it.
MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES – Control
Release Date: 13th October 2024
Some bands are easily identifiable by certain characteristics of band members with the most obvious being the vocalist. That’s the case with MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES too as Perth, Australia singer/songwriter Laith Tierney adds another string to his bow on ‘Control. The track is a high-energy piece of music that feels like it would be perfect as part of a movie soundtrack thanks to Tierney’s expansive efforts. Get ready to feel the panic when this kicks in.
