New Music Roundup – 5th June 2024

7eventh Sea – Going Under

Release Date: 31st May 2024

Nottingham-based 7eventh Sea prove they’re not a mere drop in the ocean with their new single ‘Going Under’. From the opening choral backing vocals and chattering synths to the pendulous breakdowns and gutturals, this single presents itself more as a film score in its detail than your average metalcore hit. The choruses are packed with tight, clean-cut harmonies, while the heavier passages tread into almost deathcore elements. Bouncing between djent-style guitar riffing, swooping leads and wall of sound atmospherics, ‘Going Under’ hits like a brick and leaves you thirsty for more.

Sleuth Gang – Pity Party

Release Date: 24th May 2024

Modern punk merging with hip-hop might not be something new and fresh but there is so much room for error in the genre that finding an artist doing it well is still a glorious surprise. Leeds based Sleuth Gang are certainly one of those bands with ‘Pity Party’ being the latest and most likely best track released by the seven piece to date. Frustration comes through in droves, energy pours out, this is modern punk and it goes hard.

The Almas – Crowns

Release Date: 21st July 2023 (this one is a little less new, admittedly)

American rockers The Almas have had a relatively quiet year since the release of ‘Crowns’, with ‘Lifeline’ being the only track released so far in 2024. Going back to last summer though, ‘Crowns’ is a signature track from the band that fits the American rock market perfectly. Huge vocals with catchy riffs, this is a fun one that feels like the exact sort of track you’d fall in love with as you pass a tent at a festival trying to find something new.

Queen Cult – Stop Calling

Release Date: 17th April 2024

With their stock seemingly rising day by day, Macclesfield’s finest, Queen Cult, are merging the gap between indie and hard rock. ‘Stop Calling’ is the band’s second single of the year after ‘Be Better’ and it sees them continue their abuse of sound systems across the country. Their style is a mixture of bands like Royal Blood and Turbowolf, with stomping verses and rousing choruses imploring you to just get up and lose yourself in it.
