Void Slaughter – Crimson Mist
Release date 1st July 2024
Void Slaughter is a name many will have not yet heard. But one that death metal fans will surely be familiar with in years to come. The two piece outfit featuring Gory Malcolm and Alex Davies have brought forth their newest single ‘Crimson Mist’ releasing independently on the 1st July.
This battery of sound wastes no time in pelting the listener with intense slamming riffs akin to Suffocation’s Liege of inveracity, followed up swiftly by Malcolm’s guttural and pernicious vocal style that sounds halfway between a block of cement being dragged across the ground and a slightly clogged drain. These elements together pair perfectly for a masterclass in brutality. Intertwined in this cacophony of savagery there are harmonised guitars that build the tension in the atmosphere to an unexpected and welcomed reprieve of a clean chorale. Surpassing this, we hear an ostentatious solo from guitarist Davies, checking off the final box on what any death metal fan would hope to hear on a track like this.
With many unexpected twists and turns in the 4 minute and 21 second run time it is clear that Void Slaughter have successfully paid homage to the death metal titans they are influenced by whilst combining these sounds with many more that we have come to know in modern death metal. Only time can tell where this music will take the duo, but from the quality of this song alone it is easy to imagine Wacken or Bloodstock in their future.

This is absolutely not death metal. It’s more like Slipknot and Metalcore unfortunately. Clearly deathcore influenced as well.
