Interview with L.S. Dunes, Slam Dunk 2024

Interview with Lizzie Sargent.

“For a band that has only been around for two years, we are just so happy to be included here.” Tucker Rule

On a very Sunny Saturday in Hatfield, we caught up with drummer Tucker Rule and bassist Tim Payne from LS Dunes. Both also play together in Thursday before they joined forces with Saosin’s Anthony Green, My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero and Coheed and Cambria’s Travis Stever.

Lizzie: Hey guys, welcome to Slam Dunk! You haven’t played here before have you?

Tucker: I have, I don’t remember with who or why. I remember being here but not which band I was with.

Lizzie: Was it fun?

Tucker: Really fun yeah.

Tim: I have never played here.

Lizzie: Well, is it fun so far?

Tim: Really fun, I just have no idea if it is hot or cold.

Lizzie: …Welcome to England! Tomorrow in Leeds will be a little bit worse with the weather! Had you heard of Slam Dunk before? Well Tucker, obviously you did for your unknown reasons, but had you heard of it before being booked to play?

Tim: Yeah I had heard of it, but had never had the chance to play, so I am really excited to be here.

Lizzie: We are really excited to have you! Do you guys prepare any differently for a festival show than you would for your own headline show?

Tucker: Well because the set is shorter, we have to put all killa no filla in there to keep people into it. You have to time it right to not piss off the next band, but not be too under that you don’t get chance to do your thing.

Lizzie: I guess you have people you need to win over that may not have heard of you.

Tucker: Exactly, for this band for our headline shows we play every single song we have that people have heard.

Tim: It’s just a different dynamic too, you can have those ebbs and flows, you can bring it down and then bring it back up, but festivals you have 40 mins to just keep it going!

Lizzie: Is there much of a difference between US crowd or UK?

Tucker: I think the UK might be a little bit crazier, bands don’t get over here as much, so when we do it seems like you guys go that little bit crazier!

Tim: Everyone has been so welcoming. We were here in fall of 2022 when the record came out and it was amazing and we have been trying to figure out how to get back cos it’s always really fun!

Lizzie: Any plans coming up for a UK tour?

Tim: We have this, and then playing the US in the fall, and hoping to be back here very soon but just don’t have anything set in stone yet.

Tucker: We do have a new record that is coming out probably next year, we just wrapped up those songs.

Lizzie: After this you have two intimate shows in London, but you have Monday off. What do you as a band like to do on your days off?

Tucker: We get to chill out a little bit.

Tim: Shop for Jackets, find coffee, wonder around – see what’s there. Go to museums or find some decent food.

Lizzie: What would be your dream line up? If LS Dunes were to open, who would you have following you?

Tucker: Maybe just all of our other bands that we are in.

Tim: That would be really fun! I think we know who would headline.

Lizzie: Anything else you think our readers should know?

Tim: So excited for everyone to hear the new songs we have coming out… and obviously we all hate each other very much. (said with a smirk, these guys clearly get on very well!)

Tucker: We love what we do and we are so happy to be here. For a band that has only been around for two years, we are just so happy to be included here.

You can catch LS Dunes on tour throughout the US, tickets are available here.
