New Music Roundup – 17th February 2024

MDNGHTMASS – Last Transmission

Release Date: 9th February 2024

With a style that slips in between so many genres, MNGHTMASS have started 2024 with a bang…despite ‘Last Transmission’ opening with some industrial vibes until a harsh scream breaks the mood. From there, the song perfectly exemplifies what this American core band are doing. Taken from the new EP I Know There’s A Heaven Because I’ve Seen Hell, the song repeats these lyrics in the middle with vocals that would have suited nu-metal perfectly. A nice introduction to the band for sure, but lob the EP on while you’re there.

Corella – Drifting

Release Date: 7th February 2024

British rockers Corella are up next, throwing us right back into the heydays of indie with a modern, delightfully catchy, twist. With a track that is strong throughout, the headline act here is Joel Smith’s vocals, providing the blanket on which the rest of the track rests. Despite existing now for well over six years, the band’s debut album, once upon a weekend, is due out in May and this is a band that you are going to want to keep an eye on. they’re about to explode in all their indie goodness.

CANTERVICE – Into the Dark

Release Date: 15th February 2024

Dystopian metallers CANTERVICE are back with new track ‘Into the Dark’, bringing huge guitars and a vibe that leaves the listener feeling almost hopeless. You’re not left there though as vocalist Robert Matlock’s beautiful cleans, especially just past that two minute mark, battle through the synthy tones to be that light. This core/rock project are capturing the sound of modern music and bottling it.

Rats and Daggers – Mary

Release Date: 2nd February 2024

Dutch punks Rats and Daggers were born, as many modern bands were, in 2020 and they’re just about ready to explode. ‘Mary’ sees them continue their trend of heavy, finger on the pulse songs that have seen them make a name for themselves locally. Raw vocals and persistent bass come together powerfully and ‘Mary’ is the track that implores people to stand up, down their beer and get moving.

A Place In Between – Endless Easing

Release Date: 9th February 2024

Finishing off today is Belgian atmospheric rockers A Place In Between, bringing a sense of calmness to a chaotic world, initially at least. Their first song in a few years, and only fourth ever, sees the band recapture their form immediately as they create a soundscape that encapsulates with vocals sprinkled over that will delight modern music fans. Soft and beautifully clean, they tie the track together perfectly and make just over five minutes of music a treat to be part of.
