Alice Lily – Caroline
Release Date: 2nd February 2024
From slap bang in the middle of the country, Alice Lily have recently released the latest in is developing into a strong catalogue of music from the Birmingham band. ‘Caroline’ is the first track of 2024 from the quintet and pushes the bands sound further into the softer, indie-tinged rock that they’ve found a home in recently. With incredibly relatable lyrics, catchy twinkly guitars and a bassline that is heavier than it has any right to be, Alice Lily are setting themselves up as a force to reckoned with.
Heya, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! For those living under a rock, can you tell us a bit about yourselves as a band?
Hey, thanks for having us too! We are ALICE LILY, a 5-piece band from Birmingham UK. We like frogs, long walks on the beach and a nice refreshing sprite… Cutting the tinder bio short, we had a pretty promising year in 2023; we had a cool run of gigs with the likes of Lovejoy, Swim School and Electric Six. But this year, we’re focusing on getting some more music out there, and have come straight back with a brand new single ‘Caroline’.
You’ve just released new music, can you tell us a little about it and what it means to you?
Yeah! Caroline came out on the 2nd February, and it’s been a pretty mental week or so since it’s been out! Its a real back to our roots track, a super classic sounding indie track- a perfect fit for a summer vibe playlist. With our last single “Echoes” we started to push into bit of a heavier territory, but with Caroline we’ve bought it back to what we know and it feels like a real pivoting point for some of our future releases 😉
Do you have a favourite track on there or is it like picking your favourite dog breed?
Funnily enough, out of all of our new music, I would argue Caroline is pretty low down across the board – all the members of the band have different favourites. I think the single before this, Echoes, will always hold a special place for us all though.
Can you give us an insight into how you write tracks and has this changed as you’ve become more comfortable working together?
Caroline was actually a super weird one to write, we had never really played it as a band and kind of just took this piano and vocal idea to the studio and branched from there and wrote our parts as we recorded them! Usually we kind of have a middle ground of bringing that style of demo to a rehearsal and building from there, but we kind of skipped that step with Caroline.
What was the original inspiration for you wanting to get into music and is the current style where you thought you would head?
I can’t speak for all of the band, but I know a big one for a few of us while writing some of our newer stuff has been bands like “The Backseat Lovers”, “WILLOW” and “Briston Maroney” – experimenting with a more heavy and interesting style of indie rock has really helped us find our own sound and hone in on that writing style.
Do you have any upcoming plans you’re excited about?
Oh we have a lot of upcoming plans! We can’t spoil too much, but if you liked Caroline – there is definitely more from where that came from!
We have an upcoming show in May with Emma Blackery too, which we are all super stoked about!
What’s the ultimate goal for the band? Headlining major festivals, playing a certain venue or just having as much fun as you can?
I mean really we just would like people to like and enjoy our music the same way that we enjoy making and writing it! But in a more materialistic way, I think doing a worldwide tour is a huge goal, travelling is something we are all huge fans of as a band! Right now it definitely seems unrealistic, but who knows where we could end up!
Outside of the day to day band life, what gets you up in the morning?
I mean for me personally, this band is my main passion haha! Being independent and self-managed is a lot to handle, but when you are as invested and passionate about something as much as I am about the band, it makes giving up your time for it a lot easier. Especially when you start to see results too 🙂
Finally, are there any bands that you’d like to give a shout-out to?
Yes!!! Go check out two of our best friends bands, they’ve both recently released new music too! 100000% go check out MANI JNX, and Vienna, they’re both incredible musicians and deserve so much more support!
Thanks for your time! Is there anything you’d like to say or promote while you’re here?
Go check out our latest single Caroline! It should be available on whatever streaming platform you use, and there’s also a super cool music video over on our YouTube! Keep an eye on our socials too, @Alicelilymusic on everything, there’s lots of new content coming so keep an eye on us!
