Mean Sea – Feeling Old
Release Date: 1st December 2023
Baltimore, Maryland based rock band Mean Sea decided that the start of December was a great time to release their punchy new track ‘Feeling Old’. With a killer bassline that elevates what is already a frenetic and fun intro, ‘Feeling Old’ feels fresh and unique. It doesn’t fit nicely into any of the modern genre categories that everyone so loves to pigeonhole bands into. Dramatic and raucous, it is always reassuring to hear a band that are making their own way through without being restricted. Give this one a spin and then head back through the band’s back catalogue!

Lake Acacia – Delusional
Release Date: 1st December 2023
Midlands based duo Lake Acacia are starting to make a name for themselves as an inventive band that can cross boundaries whilst remaining accessible and, most importantly, catchy as hell. ‘Delusional’ is the second track from their latest release, the EP Alter Ego. The track was the lead single and closes off a busy year for the pair, becoming the last of five releases in a 12 month period.
Combining electronic elements, catchy riffs, sections that will have you checking your why your phone won’t stop beeping at you and lyrics that will have you singing back at the band while pondering the importance of the information we receive and where it comes from. A powerful track all round.

Off Grid – Your Turn
Release Date: 5th December 2023
Despite the intro sounding similar to the opening credits of hit Channel 4 show Misfits, ‘Your Turn’ is actually a new track from Israeli rocker Off Grid. With influences pouring out of the past 60 years of rock, it’s hard not to listen to each section and do that Leonardo DiCaprio meme and point each time you recognise something. This though is a modern reinvention of everything that the band loves with powerful drumming, soaring guitars and synths coming together and catchy vocals. The energy levels are kept high throughout and ‘Your Turn’ ends almost as quickly as it began. Don’t worry though, you’ll be skipping back to it.

Fate Has Favourites – Modern Age
Release Date: 15th September 2023
Scottish emo’s Fate Has Favourites released their latest EP a few months ago and with it the track ‘Modern Age’. The band lean towards the heavier side of emo. That means both musically as well as lyrical imagery. ‘Modern Age’ sees the band looking inwards with the track, and the EP it is housed in, Our Favourite Place To Go, seeing the band bringing appropriately modern styles to the track. Sitting firmly in the more energetic section of emo music, it will hard to keep the level of introspection the band put out there when listening to this. Fate Has Favourites feel like a 2000trees house band in the making!
