Is there a better place in the world to be than Canada? Interesting wildlife, a general disdain for all things dyed orange and a hotbed of alternative music. Joining the likes of Cancer Bats, Alexisonfire and Billy Talent we have bands like Hotknives and their take on post-hardcore.
‘Specular’ is their latest effort and comes at you full throttle, balls-out, yes somehow still with a tender side hidden away in there too. The contrasting style of vocals is beautiful and feels being carried along through a storm at sea, perfectly capturing the meaning of the title.
‘Specular’ may feel like it is a couple of letters away from being a real word but if you just drop the word into your favourite search engine while listening it will all start to make sense.
