The other week we made our way to the Alma Inn, Bolton for September’s edition of their all day music showcase, an intimate 8 hours of music featuring a fantastic sampling of the UK’s up and coming metal talent.
It was the job of OND to kick start the day’s events, with the lads from Leeds blazing through their ‘spooky’ set to really set the bar high for things to come. Next up Thrashatouille provide the “well, now I’ve seen it all” moment of the day, with their unique brand of Chef Metal. That’s right, with bangers such as ‘Chilli Con Carnage‘ and ‘Red Velvet Romance‘ (not quite as innocent as it sounds) these guys serve their metal with a refreshingly generous side of silliness. Perfect listening for fans of Evil Scarecrow.
Blood Church followed, adorned in dark cloaks and corpse paint the band’s great form of Blackened Death metal was perfectly suited for the dimly lit atmosphere of the venue. A venue which Today, They are Older used to their full advantage, barely had the first song begun before both guitarist and singer were invading the crowd to deliver their heavy onslaught of Post-Hardcore goodness. This high intensity performance style has quickly become a staple of the band’s live shows and is a treat to witness whenever possible.
In spite of this being their first show in 6 years Whipcord‘s speedy Punk Rock sound seamlessly manages to keep the energy flowing as we hit the half way point in the day. Scott Beveridge Project (SBP) is up next, a passion project of the band’s frontman and namesake they deliver a solid set of hard rock hitters that you can tell have been perfectly honed over years of writing.
Asylum City Zoo take to the stage next with their brand of stompingly heavy music, with plenty of nice chunky riffs thrown in for good measure. Fresh from their appearance at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air Scars of Remembrance proved once again why they are a band to watch out for, roaming around and owning the stage just as they had done earlier this year.
Topping off this fantastic lineup are headliners Beyond Salvation who send us off in style with a blast of their technical, beefy thrash metal.
