My Only Solution – Doubt

With a few years under their belt now, it feels like My Only Solution are beginning to hit their stride. Alt-rock with a tinge of a little bit of post-hardcore, emo and most other subgenres in that area, ‘Doubt’, along with slightly more recent single ‘Fragile’, manages to soar as much as it pounds you into submission. The highlight of ‘Doubt’ at the very least is the vocals, soft and kind in places while piercingly harsh in others. A feast for the ears from start to finish from this Manchester band.
Altalune – Southern Comfort

American rock outfit Altalune have a feeling of nostalgia to them. The feel of a band that grew up with bands like Alexisonfire and You Me At Six. Bands that manage to toe the line between emotional and all sorts of catchy, with lyrics that make you want to learn them on first listen so you never miss the chance to belt them out each time the anthem hits your speakers. Fake Majesty – Yağmur Damlaları

We don’t get an awful lot of Turkish music come through and even less where the lyrics are in Turkish too. Fake Majesty are here to set this right with ‘Yağmur Damlaları’. Metalcore through and through, you’ll get soaring choruses interspersed with breakdowns, riffs and screams that echo through your skull. Oh and the odd “blegh” through in there for good luck too. A
Gernz – OW!

Aussie trio Gernz are dragging us back to the 90s…something that I think a lot of people over the age of 30 would take with how the world is right now. ‘OW!’ is a track inspired, as you can tell by the artwork, by the banging of a toe on something it wasn’t meant to come into contact with. Released just last week, the track echoes the sorts of 90s bands that you’d listen to a wistfully wish your life away as you went out to meet your mates on a sunny summer’s day.
State Power – Spoils of Empire

Utrecht, Netherlands outfit State Power know the power of a well placed “Go” in a song. A furious riff, drums building anticipation and then a single syllable uttered with intensity and all of a sudden ‘Spoils of Empire’ is forcing your head to bang, your arms to swing and your legs to kick. This five piece mob from the continent have proved over the last couple of years that hardcore is at its best when it’s under three minutes long and even that has you worrying you’ll run out of energy. Frenetic from start to finish.
