Manchester trio The Hara is back with their second album Fallout, which sees them tackle more vulnerable subjects alongside experimenting with a new and unique sound. This 11-track release focuses on internal battles and stripped-back emotions, making for a mature and heartfelt listening experience.

Opening track and single ‘Trophy’ dives right in by exploring the feeling using our skin as a “trophy” for hiding our internal struggles, which is highlighted by the band stripping back during their hard-hitting verses, whilst still allowing a chorus that can be screamed along to.

Twist the arrows adds an electronic style to the stripped-back rock sound echoed throughout the many tracks on this album. The expert mix of beats and pulsing riffs allows this tune to crescendo in both sound and emotion; you may need some tissues for this one. ‘Bury Me’ also shares a lot of this emotion with the excellent use of haunting piano throughout.

The Hara have also explored a punkier sound within tracks ‘Intergalactic Sabotage’ and ‘The System’, the latter of which is a rallying cry against a system that is felt to be broken and to not give in to this system, accented by heavy breakdowns and the use of screaming to really hammer the point home.

Closing track ‘Enemy’ takes a more experimental route by combining lead singer Josh Taylors vocals with the drum work by Jack Kennedy to make almost a bullet sound, really making the track hit hard. This is further complemented by Guitarist Zack Breen, who uses the guitar almost like a siren in between juicy heavy riffs. The combination of these elements really does make the listening experience feel like you are fighting an enemy!

Altogether, Fallout is a triumphant addition to The Haras discography, full of heart, soul and development which should take them very far!
