It’s a sold out evening in KOKO, and everyone arrived early for an evening with Deaf Havana.
The set opens with old favourite ‘Sinner’ and a track from their brand-new album ‘Carousel’. With the crowd full to the brim, a cramped floor, and each balcony and terrace front row packed, everyone reacts with head bangs as they start their long set for the evening.
Vocalist James Veck-Gilodi stops part-way through the set to express his gratitude for everyone who has come to the gig, after he says he’s “not good at the talking”, everyone within the room is happy to be in this moment. Speaking on the new album, We’re Never Getting Out, that was released just a week ago , “Turns out we need to have an existential crisis to write an album.” which earned a laugh from the audience.
The set continues with hits both old and new, including ‘Pretty Low’, and new song ‘ Hurts To Be Lonely’, before finishing with an encore of one of their largest hits ‘Trigger’. It’s a night full of nostalgia for many in the room, and Deaf Havana has let us know they’re here to stay.
