New Music Roundup – 4th November 2024

Coilguns – Bandwagoning

Release Date: 25th October 2024

Swiss noise-rock monsters Coilguns have been growing loudly and steadily over the past decade and a bit, to the point where a new track from the four-piece is starting to feel like a momentous occasion. ‘Bandwagoning’ is from the upcoming new album Odd Love and is a fun reminder of what the band can do. There’s the usual dose of chaos, never more so than after the midway mark as the drumming hoiks up the intensity further, the vocals take the reins for a few seconds and then everything comes together with a wail. Get yourself ready for the 22nd of November. The new album is going to SLAP.

Overthrone – TYRANTS

Release Date: 16th October 2024

British quartet Overthrone are back with another single combining brutal screams, powerful riffs mixed in with hugely catchy choruses. The intro to ‘TYRANTS’ doesn’t prepare the listener for what is to come as deathcore takes the lead before the metal and hardcore influences barge their way in. This is one to blast out at the gym.

Luna Kiss – Lift me off the ground

After six years, Coventry-based Luna Kiss are continuing their trend of catchy yet emotionally challenging releases that have as much chance of inciting an epiphany as it does a singalong. ‘Lift me off the ground’ may not be the most intricate of songs, the depth comes lyrically as vocalist Wil Russell’s soft tones beg for your attention.

Living Through Mirrors – Sirens

Release Date: 24th October 2024

Aussie metal mob Living Through Mirrors may only be on track four when it comes to their catalogue of tracks but there’s little doubt the band has some serious talent within. channelling elements of modern metalcore and 80s heavy metal, the track is a journey. From the heavier verses through the anthemic choruses, each turn brings something fresh, though often it is accompanied by a serious desire to bang one’s head.

Plague Father – Self Exile

Release Date: 25th October 2024

A song more than six years in the making, ‘Self Exile’ is some true metal goodness from Welsh artist Plague Father. Disgusting vocals are combined with fast riffs and the result is a death metal track that laughs in the face of the stigma that the genre often undeservingly faces. Get ready to lose control of your facial muscles.

Grumpy Custard – Jobsworth

Release Date: 23rd October 2024

With a quirky, modern sounding indie-punk vibe, Grumpy Custard’s music is about as ‘normal’ as their band name. The Brighton-based outfit have released ‘Jobsworth’, a track for everyone who has had a boss that has just made everything about their life worse. Catchy, cheeky and funky, ‘Jobsworth’ will hopefully provide some catharsis.

poor sport – chasing ghosts

Release Date: 24th October 2024

If you’re facing into winter and feeling like you need some twinkly midwest emo, poor sport are here for you. ‘chasing ghosts’ does exactly what you would hope. There’s a sombre tone that runs through the track, one that invokes memories of standing around with beer in plastic cups swaying as you realise you’re relating to the lyrics a little harder than you expected. Get this one one, get wrapped up warm and have a good think.

Walk On Mars – Fraud

Release Date: 31st October 2024

Walk On Mars is a pop-punk project from American artist Mary Jo Swank that channels years of mismanagement by a dodgy record company. Free from their clutches, ‘Fraud’ is the second independently released track and the power of the track comes from the message of learning not to trust those that you shouldn’t. Combining catchiness with anger, ‘Fraud’ continues a poetic rebirth.

The Sound Of Modesty – Safe In Your Arms

Release Date: 25th October 2024

Emotional alt-pop-metal from Yvonne Han’s project The Sound Of Modesty sees ‘Safe In Your Arms’ released, a piano driven ballad that combines Japanese inspired rock with catchy pop-esque vocals to create a cloud-like musical canvas. The track builds through the opening couple of minutes to a powerful crescendo, with Han’s vocals remaining stable throughout. This probably isn’t like anything else you’ve heard this year.
