New Music Roundup – 14th May 2024

Joey Rival – Rooted In Blood

Release Date: 19th April 2024

American songwriter Joey Rival returned last month with new track ‘Rooted In Blood’, his fifth song so far and one rooted heavily in those 80s and turn of the century metal influences. Bring all of his experience of working with projects such as Rival Order, ‘Rooted In Blood’ is powerful throughout and bruising in places. Chugging guitars, old school metal vocals. This is one for those dingy bars.

NVSN – Black Hole

Release Date: 22nd April 2024

Alt-rock with a touch of metalcore vibe sees ‘Black Hole’ as the latest track from American rockers NVSN. A soaring intro feels like it could turn out heavy but clean vocals and a lull in the music shows that this isn’t what you necessarily think. Crisp screams give those cleans a wonderful accent and the contrast between the electronic style beats, rapped vocals and riffs makes the track an aural banquette.

Acrolein – Doomspeak

Release Date: 13th April 2024

Core through and through, ‘Doomspeak’ is a relentless and brutal attack on the senses. From the opening seconds its clear that Acrolein mean business and that continues through the almost five minutes of heavy guitars and screeching vocals. ‘Doomspeak’ is a pummelling.

Firmament – Cherub

Release Date: 19th April 2024

A modern track that combines technical guitars with delightful vocals, ‘Cherub’ is a progressive rock track that is definitely not prog-rock. There are post-hardcore elements in there mixed with more structured rock sections and heavier guitars that bring more urgency in places too. A fun song that takes progressive music and gives it a touch of accessibility.

VOXX – Backstabbed

Release Date: 24th April 2024

In their fifth year as an outfit, American hard rockers VOXX are continuing their trend of creating radio styled melodic hard rock that just screams sunny festival afternoon and beer in hand. ‘Backstabbed’ is a quintessential song that doesn’t feel paint by numbers thanks to vocals that are familiar but unique. A fun track that will get you bouncing.
