Greywind – Antidote
Release date: 15th March 2024
Irish alt-emo siblings Greywind are back with a new release Antidote. Following a heavy and difficult few years of navigating the highs and lows of the industry, a long struggle and social media surge of their debut album Afterthoughts released in 2017 , they’re ready to launch themselves in to a new era.
The first track ‘Swing and Sway’ and title track ‘Antidote’ are driven by the whirlwind of emotions experienced by band members Steph and Paul O’Sullivan during the first phase of their career. ‘Swing and Sway’ is one of the slower tracks on this EP, but with a chorus that hits you in the chest combined with emotive lyrics, it’s impossible to not feel the emotion within the song. Title track ‘Antidote’ gives pop-punk through the verse before pure angst within the chorus, that will have you nodding your head throughout. Speaking on these two tracks, Steph says, “These two songs were literally written in and about that time when it was happening, when we just felt so trapped and angry.”
‘Deathwish’ launches with a hard-hitting riffs before quietening down exposing Steph’s vocal range. A catchy and head-banging chorus to keep you on your toes, this song is a stand-out on the EP as a fantastic emo-ballad. Finishing the EP with ‘You’re My Medicine’, an ideal summary of themes. Steph admits “Really, these songs are a reminder to ourselves and to people listening that only you can save yourself.”
Antidote is vulnerable with transparent emotive lyrics, and the ideal catapult into their new era. If you’ve not been paying attention, this is the time.
